Retired police dog that recently passed away was featured on Crimewatch in 2008

Yesterday, we featured the recently departed retired Police K-9 Unit dog, 16-year-old Sirius.

This was after the German Shepherd was given a fitting send-off by its adopter having served with pride and distinction while in service, and where it spent its remaining days purely as a domestic companion post-retirement.

According to the owner, when Sirius was a police dog, it was trained by the force to sniff for human remains to help solve crimes in Singapore.

As luck would have it, here’s the evidence: An old clip from a Crimewatch episode from 2008 featured Sirius and another dog in action.

Known as Cadaver Detector Dogs, the Singapore Police Force was the first in Southeast Asia to train dogs to sniff for decomposing human flesh back then.

So, it turns out, Sirius is going to live forever on TV, after all.

Check it out:

Cadaver Detector Dogs – What are they? What do they do? How are they trained? Crimewatch provides an insight into this capability of the Police K9 unit and how these dogs help in Police investigations.
