Former Mediacorp honcho Bernard Lim urges Minister Heng to “stay positive and fight on”
Former Mediacorp TV honcho Bernard Lim has joined a growing chorus of encouragement for stroke-ridden Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat, sharing a photo of him and Heng on Tuesday and urging the minister to “stay positive and fight on”.
Lim, best known for his work at Mediacorp’s family segment and as former radio DJ, posted this to his Instagram page:
“Humble and unassuming man who was knocked down last Thursday by a stroke of the brain, same as my condition last two years. Let’s pray for our Finance Minister to return to good health. Stay positive and fight on…… I can understand the pain and fight.”
Lim explained that the photo came from 2014, when he and the Mediacorp TV roadshow team dropped by at a Tampines GRC breakfast event for a Channel 8 relaunch. Heng is the anchor Minister and MP for Tampines GRC.
Lim, 48, suffered a stroke in mid-April that year.
He reportedly experienced a brain aneurysm that resulted in the stroke when he was at home.
Like Heng, he was admitted to the intensive care unit at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
Finance Minister suffered a stroke last Thursday
Heng, who suffered from a sudden stroke during a Cabinet meeting last Thursday, underwent immediate neurosurgery to ease the pressure in his brain caused by a burst aneurysm, which was successfully closed.
In his thank you letter to the Singapore Civil Defence Force last Saturday (May 14), PM Lee Hsien Loong revealed that SCDF officers responded within seven minutes of their 995 call.
PM Lee also shared that it was Minister of State Janil Puthucheary, a doctor, who resuscitated Heng.
Janil made a presumptive diagnosis on Heng’s condition and was hyperventilating him to relieve pressure on his brain and reduce the swelling.
Heng is still in intensive care at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
